Detroit scored a touchdown on its opening drive and never looked back as it improved to 4-4 on the season.
Matthew Stafford threw for 361 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Lions, while Marvin Jones Jr. tallied 107 receiving yards and two scores. Golden Tate also added 113 receiving yards for Detroit.

“Vontaze is one of those guys who’s very chippy,” Woodyard said. “He loves the game and he’s one of my favorite guys to watch. Unfortunately, he has to know the NFL is going to be looking at him and the referees are going to be keying on him.
At least the Dolphins got a taste of Tannehill in the preseason. Indianapolis didn’t even get that far with Andrew Luck. Despite public promises from team owner Jim Irsay, Luck never came close to re-entering the starting lineup this season as his recovery attempts from last January’s shoulder surgery fizzled. Luck is now reportedly seeking treatment methods in Europe in hopes of returning in 2018.
The Panthers are back to the basics under coach Ron Rivera. They run the ball, with Jonathan Stewart, Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey, Cameron Artis-Payne, whoever. They stop the run just as well. It allows Newton to be in comfortable passing situations, while his counterpart has to drop back often against an attacking defense.
When they protect the ball with Newton, the Panthers fine. But they haven’t been great at forcing takeaways to facilitate their offense. Newton has been up and down based on level of opponent and time of game.
