It appears unlikely Broncos will pick up Shane Ray’s option

The Broncos are not expected to exercise the $9.232 million option for outside linebacker Shane Ray in 2019, a team personnel source told 9NEWS.
Although the $9.232 million option would be guaranteed only against injury, the Broncos may not want to take that risk after using their No. 5 overall draft pick on Chubb, who plays Ray’s position, and because Ray is coming off a wrist injury.
Ray was the No. 23 overall selection in 2015. He was the Broncos’ first pick even though the team already had DeMarcus Ware and Von Miller starting in front of him. Ray had 4.0 sacks in his rookie season of 2015 and 8.0 in 2016 while serving as Ware’s back up.
It’ll be a fresh duo for ESPN in 2018 with Joe Tessitore taking over play-by-play duties for Sean McDonough. That’s no sweat off McDonough’s back as he admitted in a recent radio appearance that it wasn’t a tremendous amount of fun the last two years.
Part of the reason McDonough wasn’t happy with the job is that ESPN is often stuck with poor games due to the lack of flexible scheduling for the Monday night slot. Unless that changes, it’ll likely be on Tessitore and Witten to make boring games entertaining in 2018 and beyond.
Petty’s final stats with the Jets: 10 games, seven starts (1-6 record), four touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and a 57.7 quarterback rating.
Something had to give in the Jets’ quarterback room after they drafted Darnold third overall, re-signed McCown, and signed Bridgewater, who is coming off a serious knee injury.

Bridgewater’s spot on the roster isn’t secure, because it’s not clear if his knee will be up to par. He essentially hasn’t played for two seasons after sustaining a devastating, non-contact knee injury in 2016 training camp.
